HOLLY BATE
PHOTOGRAPHER
‘The Salon’ is an exploration of the modern-day concept of beauty and how it is affected by social media and mass advertising. It articulates the artificial value of manufactured beauty and presents the idea of self-fashioning as an alien concept. These photographs are a combination of self-portrait and still-life explorations into the photographer’s own relationship with beauty standards and societal norms, which is reflected in the clinical, alternate reality she has created.
